My mom chose this as our third drama of the year back in January. Right from the first episode I suspected I would cry a lot whilst watching this drama and over the course of a very quick 10 episodes I was proven right.
The three main characters each have pretty tragic backgrounds to different extents and each was humanised enough in their pain that it didn’t feel like these three people are the most unrealistically unfortunate souls in the world. Whilst the mood of the drama swayed between comedy and tragedy, the two chases in search of a father and a bride work against each other for the majority of the time but I found myself rooting for both parties every step of the way.
The themes around biological family vs found family were really touching and I think they were portrayed really beautifully. The note that Mr Plankton ended on was oddly satisfactory in the way that the narrative wasn’t neatly wrapped up. I cried a lot at the end but in hindsight the way this drama ended was fitting for the themes and tone we’d seen until that point.
