Don’t Build My Hopes Up is a pretty harmless comic where main character Gyuyeong fancies the older brother of a school friend for the sole trait of being kind.
The story did get dull at times but there were aspects that quite interested me as they were being explored. The issues surrounding the main character’s home life weren’t exactly rare but I think the portrayal of the struggle was shown in a really refreshing way.
With stories like this, I find myself not caring about the romance as much because it’s a given that the characters will be together by the end. I wouldn’t say I totally switched my brain off to read Don’t Build My Hopes Up, but I can’t claim to have read into it any deeper than surface-level.
