I usually do not even consider Amazon Prime when it comes to kdramas but my mom had The Kidnapping Day saved to a watchlist over there for a while. I’m so glad she pushed to watch this as it is a hidden gem I adore so much.
A down on his luck, incompetent(?), bumbling everyman Kim Myeongjun kidnaps rich 11-year old Choi Rohui with the goal of using the ransom to pay for his own daughter’s medical bills. About to back out of the plan, the target runs out in front of his car and faints. The kidnapping simply takes care of itself.
The Kidnapping Day is obviously a much more complex drama than that with so many plotlines and conspiracies to keep you on the edge of your seat. It made for an absolutely brilliant watch filled with action, twists, and wall to wall laughs.
The dynamic between Myeongjun and child genius Rohui left an impression on me that I won’t easily forget. I won’t give too much away here though. I really suggest you watch this drama to see just how excellently these characters play off one another.
Overall the drama is extremely charming and is absolutely one of the best I’ve seen this year.
