The Path of a Star

The art is very pretty and… cloudy(?) in this work. Both this and the distance that the narrative places between itself and the characters has really helped build the anticipation in The Path of a Star for me.

Woo Gyeolnamu is the leader of idol group Pale Green. Since a mistake onstage, he has been entangled with Gyeolwoo of top idol group Kimberly (the English translation has him in as Gyeol, I suppose to reduce the confusion with the similar names, but he is Gyeolwoo in the original — not that I have read that TT).

Gyeowool/Gyeolnamu/Winter is such a pitiful little guy but I can’t hate him for it. He’s lived a hard life and I’m glad to see kind people break down the walls he built up. Suddenly taking on this pretend public friendship with Gyeolwoo is good for his career and good for him as a person too. I can’t say Gyeolnamu is stunted but it really seems that he doesn’t start opening up about what he wants until he’s navigating the fake-friendship.

I’ve actually read this twice more since first jotting down my thoughts and The Path of a Star has cemented itself as a favourite of mine. I like it when people are nice and the Pale Green Members, the manager, CEO Lee Hanyeol, Jimin(??? I’m sorry I forgot her name but the girl from Aegnog/Eggnog), and even Gyeolwoo are so nice to Gyeolwoo. It feels good to read so many people showing kindness to him as the story wears on.

But there’s bad news when it comes to The Path of a Star too. Two seasons have been published but I’m not sure much more will be released in this format. Yeonog is no longer the artist affiliated with this work, which is sad because their art style really matches this story gorgeously, but if they needed to step away from publishing it is good that they made the best decision for them.

I believe the novel is completed but I haven’t found a translation of that yet. In the meantime I did buy the first few volumes on Ridi. I know that it might seem pointless to check out a story that is incomplete with no news in sight but I really think it deserves all the eyeballs it can get! Maybe if enough people like it there will be some effort or other to bring it back (please, please, please).
