I was seeing a lot of buzz for When the Phone Rings so I was extremely excited to give it a go. The start was promising and wrought with tension.

Naturally the entire premise fell apart by episode 4. Too much time was spent being forcibly ignorant of facts that characters were mulling over. The main character losing her spine and all the will she had for revenge was particularly painful.
I love a love story as much as the next person but I really don’t see how recontextualising years of your life just because you found out someone’s tragic backstory can make up for the years of being belittled and humiliated that you actually had to live through. I don’t know, maybe I have no empathy but someone having an unhappy childhood wouldn’t be a good enough excuse to undo the damage that made me want to kill them (I can’t remember if the goal was to kill the guy or take him down but as a viewer I felt he deserved death).
