Friendly Rivalry | 2025 Drama Round Up

If I am totally honest, the casting was what made me really want to watch this. The almost-GL atmosphere had to settle in second place.

Seeing Lee Hyeri as a mysterious antagonist/deuteragonist was really interesting. I also loved the feeling of completion from her first(?) drama Seonam Girls’ High School Detectives which had some claim as airing the first lesbian kiss in some television microcategory. And now here she was, bathing with and seducing the protagonist of a hyped drama. I was also super excited to see Kang Hyewon of Boombaya fame in a role.

The characters were fun and the drama got off to a really intriguing start. It got a bit too edgy for its own good at some point but it maintained the momentum of the intrigue quite nicely.

And then some happened and the whole drama blew up. The pacing was weird, the story made no sense and started taking place off screen, and they forced some twist ending with no set-up or pay-off. Skip the last episode (or cut it off a bit earlier than that, my mind is fuzzy on the details) and just write some fanfiction of now how it is supposed to end.
