The Skeleton Becomes a Cat Dad

Webtoons featuring kids are irresistible to me these days. Like most people, I love cute things!

The Skeleton Becomes a Cat Dad by Mago is actually one of the first webtoons I checked out on Tappytoon. It was a rare non-BL choice from me and I was hooked right from the start.

The art style is gorgeous and it was impossible not to fall in love with adorable little Nabi.

A baby human seen through the eyes of demons really is such a strange thing and there is a lot to have to think about. The demons themselves were also pretty strange but they were all so easy to love.

Skelly, a carelessly named skeleton demon, wants a pet cat seeing as they’re striking out on their own and gaining a sense of independence. Unbeknownst to them, the pet cat they end up with is not a hairless mutant; it’s a human. In a world where humans are required by law to be killed on sight, this poses a big problem.

Skelly’s best friends are a perpetually drunk succubus called Lily and a devil called Adam.

The trio of friends are very easy to love even when they’re constantly bickering. They have such differing perspectives on just about everything and that is a source of comedy as much as it becomes a source of guidance and debate.

The world building in the devildom is pretty cute and funny at first. The offbrand and demon versions of human products are great gags on their own, yet as the story progresses there is more and more logic stuffed into it all.

I will say that this webtoon is long. The main story was still ongoing when I first checked it out and that was when the episode count was in the 180s. Even I couldn’t help but consider how big of a commitment it was to read and I’d already spent a bunch of money on unlocking most of the episodes! That being said, I had to know what was going on!

Was Skelly going to realise that their cat Nabi was actually a human? Why is Skelly’s father so distant? How did Skelly come to exist?

Those were just some of the many questions I had. Reading through, the developments and bumps in the road were all so thrilling. And of course seeing Nabi was enough to soothe a lot of the stress there.

Late into the webtoon, there is an arc where seemingly innocuous aspects of the background story are clarified and revealed. It is a long arc that covers a lot of ground in flashbacks but it is also an important arc in terms of really digging into the story. (but I was also conflicted because I missed Skelly and Nabi too much).

All in all, this is such a brilliant webtoon that pulled on every heartstring possible. The ending was quite emotionally exhausting but it was worth every tear.
