So, a recluse who owns an online sex toy shop meets the new hot security guard at his building and the rest is history, right? Not quite but Lookout for Love certainly makes the most of that premise.
The art style has a really fun air so I was expecting a cute and very tame story. I was pretty surprised by the dark turns the story took (but don’t worry, there is still enough fluff and second hand embarrassment to earn the fun art style).
One thing I really liked was how the eyes were drawn. The main pov character Suho has pretty standard looking eyes. He’s attractive himself, albeit a bit scruffy. On the other hand there is absolute dreamboat Sanghyeok (and his little brother) who have black irises and white pupils. It is such an interesting choice for my unartistic eyes but it works brilliantly. There’s nobody else who looks like that (sorry, I literally cannot remember what their mom’s eyes are like) and they stand out in a way that does seem exceptionally pretty.
Small details like that which indicate something larger are key in this webtoon.
I don’t want to spoil too much but there are small seeds sown throughout the narrative that make me want to go back and check it all out again with renewed eyes (unfortunately I’m a super cheapo and used the free pass up until I could binge the last episodes that I had no choice but to buy).
